“The Musicianship and Leadership Program is Liberating. Humanizing. Creative. Supportive. Transformative.”
– Prana Rising
Prana Rising, Founder and Director of Sound Artist, is a handpan artist.
He teaches online and in person, offers lessons and workshops, school programs to all ages, runs a creative music ensemble and rents and sells beautiful hand pans. His blog is deep and wide, covering topics such as choosing a handpan, how to travel with one, what is unique about handpans, how to get started, exploring scales—just take a moment and dive in.
In his first encounter with Music for People, Prana discovered a community built around the idea that music belongs to everyone and that improvisation can be a path to connection, healing, growth, and joy— things he had always felt deeply but rarely saw fully honored.
He was drawn to the Musicianship and Leadership Program (MLP) because he wanted to deepen both his musicianship and his ability to help others access theirs.
He wrote, “I hoped it would offer tools, perspective, and community—and it did. I came looking for growth, but also for alignment between the kind of musician I wanted to be and the kind of human I wanted to be.”
When asked how the MLP had supported his work and creative expression, he said “the MLP strengthened my trust in intuition while also giving me practical frameworks for facilitation, listening, leadership, and collaboration.
“It helped affirm that creativity does not need to be forced—it can be invited. That understanding has deeply shaped how I teach, perform, and hold space for others.”
Each person experiences personal and musical transformations through the MLP process. It is unique to each person. For Prana one of the biggest transformations was the shift from feeling he needed to “prove” himself as a musician toward “simply being present as one.”
He continued, “There is more freedom now, more humility, more confidence, and more willingness to let music be relational rather than performative.”
For Prana the MLP training was “expansive, human, playful, and meaningful. It challenged me in the best ways. There were moments of vulnerability, discovery, laughter, and deep reflection. It reminded me that learning can be rigorous while also being joyful.”
