Register for the Musicianship and Leadership Program – Worldwide
Music for People’s Musicianship and Leadership Program (MLP) offers advanced training in improvisational musicianship, performance and group facilitation. Recommended for educators, musicians, music-lovers, facilitators, therapists & healing practitioners. In this three year program, the level for each year focuses on various aspects of musical development with attention given to each participant’s goals and aspirations.

Each year/level of training is divided into three separate modules. Features of the program include:

Monthly Online Classes, Sunday 1:00-3:00 p.m. Eastern Time beginning in October:
- Module One: Melody and Core MfP Skills: Oct 25, Nov 22, Dec 13-Homeplay
- Module Two: Rhythm: Jan 31, Feb 28, March 21-Homeplay
- Module Three: Form and Harmony: April 25, May 23, June 27-Homeplay
The three Homeplay sessions (December 13, March 21, June 27) will include small-group or one-on-one mentoring with MfP grads to provide support and feedback on homeplays.
- Homeplay assignments to be recorded in advance or completed live during mentoring sessions.
- Asynchronous content to access between sessions: video, print, and audio, including founder David Darling speaking about the work.
- Access to an online portal for recordings of the online sessions and any asynchronous content.
- Play along tracks for home improv practice.
- Special online mentoring sessions between group sessions.
- Discounts on Music for People’s in person workshops.
- Optional – Participation in Collab Lab, MfP’s ongoing international collaborative recording project.
In 2026-2027, people in the first Improviser year of the program can complete the year two different ways:
- Complete the three modules online by attending monthly Zoom meetings.
- Attend three in-person workshops and also attend the online Homeplay session for each module.
Cost
- $650 USD if paying for all 3 modules at once; $275 USD per module if paying separately. This price includes a training book for your level.
- For 2nd and 3rd level MLP participants to advance to the next level, you will be required to attend some in-person events during the year and/or the weeklong Art of Improvisation workshop held in the summer. The tuition for Art of Improvisation must be paid separately and is not included in your MLP tuition.

- MLP Program Tuition: Make one tuition selection below by either paying for each module separately OR paying for the entire year and getting a discount.
